Tucked away in the Financial district among countless corporate coffee chains sits R & R Coffee, home of Downtown’s favorite latte.
The secret to a good latte is the care that is put into it. R & R Coffee, located at 76 Fulton Street, just a stones throw away from the South Street Seaport, understands the importance of putting care into their product, and that starts with the ingredients. R & R has embraced their New York roots, using locally sourced ingredients so that they serve the freshest product possible. “The coffee we get from Toby’s [Estate Coffee Roasters] and the milk we get is from Battenkill Farms, it’s all local,” said R & R Coffee owner Richard Young. “[Toby’s is] right in Brooklyn, so we can get multiple deliveries so the coffee is always freshly roasted.”
Not only does R & R carefully curate their ingredients, they put a great deal of care into the making of their lattes. All of R & R’s baristas are trained in making the perfect cup of joe. “It’s the care that you put into the coffee,” said Young. “You have to calibrate the espresso. You have to steam the milk properly.” It is this sense of pride that helps R & R elevate their latte far above the competition.
R & R’s attention to detail extends from the preparation of their latte to their presentation. A latte from R & R isn’t complete without beautifully crafted latte art. Each barista is trained in creating unique designs and are required to finish each up with with a little decoration, be it a delicate leaf or a romantic heart. “People have come to expect it,” said Young, and R & R knows how to deliver.
In addition to their signature lattes, R & R offers a wide selection of coffee beverages, including pour overs, iced coffee, and espresso among delicious drinks. R & R also has a variety of tasty breakfast treats, such as breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and bagels, as well as a selection of lunch dishes, certain to satisfy all of your cravings.
As a member of the Downtown community, R & R Coffee loves being a part of such a diverse, thriving community. “It’s the diversity of the people. You have business people, and on Fulton Street you get kids, you get blue-collar workers, you get the tourists… And you get a lot of families here too. Big variety,” said Young.
